I founded my company Brits fish and chips on June 3rd 2002 in Edmonton Alberta where we firmly established a reputation for great traditional British fish and chips - so much so that local TV stations recently voted it number one in the city for fish and chips and both local newspapers have run several positive articles on our friendly little restaurant!

A labour of love for myself (Paul Lawson) a Fish fryer from the UK my restaurants encompass everything British - from its menu to the friendly atmosphere to the great imported ales and lagers and of course excellent food at great prices! I married a Canadian girl many moons ago…. and since that time we have spent most of our lives in the UK operating successful Fish and Chip shops, from the Highlands of Scotland to Derbyshire and Yorkshire in England.

I learned from an early age the importance of quality ingredients in the production of my food and here in Canada it is no exception! BRITS only use the finest and freshest of ingredients including great quality fish from the Atlantic ocean - and of course some of the best spuds in the world grown in Prince Edward Island!

Nearly all our sauces and batters are home made to very old and trusted recipes - including our famous tartar sauce and mushy peas! This attention to detail has left BRITS firmly established in the hearts and stomachs of my customers - Including the large British Immigrant population. - After 5 successful years and three restaurants in Alberta we decided to open up shop in the Maritimes and in particular PEI!

I am often asked “why Charlottetown?” And the answer is simple - Great fresh produce and a fantastic place to raise my kids! Our latest location 41 University Avenue Charlottetown is the ‘jewel in the crown’ of BRITS stores with an expanded menu that includes salads and traditional English puddings.

All that being said ‘the proof of the pudding is in the eating’ so please come along join us and try the true flavour of our great British national dish and I’m sure you’ll agree with our many friends across Canada who come regularly to one of the stores that BRITS truly is a great little catch!
